Day 69: A Chinese Festival at Nundle

We headed down to Nundle today, to see what the Chinese Festival was all about.

On arrival, the Chinese dragon dance was just about to begin, so we joined the crowds for a look. It was an enjoyable experience and was obviously very well rehearsed. The young chaps who were manipulating all the dragons worked up quite a sweat under all those dragon bits!

There were a number of stalls on the roadsides and Andrew became quite taken with the idea of having some noodles for lunch. We tracked down 'Mr Lee's Buns and Noodles', where Andrew got hold of some stir fried noodles, and we all tried a steamed pork bun.

Next, we went off in search of the gold mine and panning activities. The boys both had a go at panning for gold, and each found tiny bits of gold in their dirt, which we could take away with us. We visited the information centre to find out where the best fossicking places are, and have decided to go back again on Monday and spend the day there having a good fossick.

The drive to and from Nundle was very scenic and lovely. It feels very much like Jackeroo country, and you almost expect to hear 'yee hah' ringing out from the valleys. I look forward to heading back there again, come Monday.
