Did you know that fruit and vegetables are not allowed across the South Australian border?
Being Tasmanian, we really should have expected it, but of course we had a big fruit buy-in the other day. So, this morning, fruit was on the menu for breakfast and snacks in a BIG way. I think I probably have my dietary fiber intake covered for at least 48hours.
We all had a little cheer in the car as we crossed the South Australian border. None of us have been here before, so this is all new territory. Mount Gambier is just inside the border - about 18kms. It appears that South Australians also like to have their roads worked on, because we encountered road works immediately after passing the 'Welcome to South Australia' sign, and so enjoyed our first views of this state at a sedate 40kms/hr for the first few kms at least. (The call of nature becoming rather more insistent, I didn't appreciate this at the time.)
The drive from Port Fairy (on the now-cleared road) took only about 2hrs, so we got in at lunch time, had a few tense words while trying to position our home and finally enjoyed something to eat. (Everyone's humour improved after that.)
The afternoon was spent doing school work. Callum thrilled to be working on his Maths again, while Andrew did some English with Duncan and wrote a story about 'The day in the life of a fly' (wonder where we got that inspiration?!!!). Both Duncan and I have been really impressed with Callum's teachers, who have all provided outlines of work for him to follow/do. This is really helpful to us in our home-schooling endeavours and we appreciate them taking time out to accommodate us.
Over the next few days we are going to explore this region, close by and further afield, probably starting with doing the walks around the Blue Lake and neighbouring lakes. Watch this space...
